The Office of Population Affairs, an agency in U. S. Health and Human Services, announced $17.7 million in funding for the federal Title X Family Planning Program for Every Body Texas and Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.

Every Body Texas was awarded $15.4 million for 5 years to support family planning providers across Texas.

The Title X program provides safe, low-cost, confidential family planning and preventive healthcare. More than 60% of Title X clients are uninsured and more than 77% live under the federal poverty line ($26,500 for a family of 4 in 2021). Services include contraception, breast and cervical cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment including HIV, and preconception health services. The statewide increased funding for this critical program will support access to family planning services for people throughout Texas.

“We are proud to continue supporting our network of providers and thrilled to see the overall increase in funding throughout the state. These dollars mean more people in Texas will be able to access services such as contraceptive care, cancer screenings, and HIV and STI testing and treatment,” said Matt Thompson, acting Title X project director for Every Body Texas.

“Despite this overall increase in funding, the need in Texas continues to grow. We can’t overstate how Congress’s continual failure to appropriately fund Title X only worsens the growing crisis for access to sexual and reproductive healthcare in this country, particularly in states where the need for care exceeds how many people can access it,” said Thompson.

“Every Body Texas will continue our commitment to expanding access to safe, high quality, unbiased sexual and reproductive healthcare services in Texas. We applaud the Biden administration’s commitment to expanding access to reproductive healthcare earlier this week with a proposed $400 million increase for Title X and we strongly urge Congress to take similarly bold action in the next appropriations cycle.”

Every Body Texas has been the statewide federal Title X family planning program administrator for Texas since 2013 and supports a network of 35 agencies with 160 clinic sites serving more than 180,000 people annually.
