State legislative priorities for the 89th Texas Legislature
The 89th Texas Legislature has concluded
The 89th Texas Legislature adjourned sine die on June 2, 2025, concluding a session shaped by major debates on issues including school vouchers and marijuana policy. Throughout the session, Every Body Texas engaged on nearly 60 bills impacting sexual and reproductive health, while advocating to strengthen women’s health funding and protect access to care amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding federal safety net programs.
Healthcare providers across the state played a central role in these efforts both by supporting policy proposal development and through testimony, helping policymakers understand the real-world impact of funding and policy decisions on Texas families. 2025 Policy Priorities
Fully fund Texas' Women's health programs.
The Legislature should ensure that the women’s health programs that provide preventive care before, during, and after pregnancy are fully funded and can meet the needs of the 1.9 million Texas women of reproductive age without health insurance.

Support the rights of young parents to make their own healthcare decisions.
The legislature should clarify that pregnant and parenting young people are able to consent to their own healthcare.

Texas continues to have the highest rate of uninsured people in the country. That means many Texans can’t get regular check-ups or preventive care, often waiting until they’re very sick before seeing a doctor. Every Body Texas supports efforts to streamline state eligibility and enrollment systems to streamline access to care.
