Every Body Texas released the following statement:
At Every Body Texas, we value dignity, equity, access, innovation, quality of care, and facts. The fact is that abortion is a safe and necessary part of sexual and reproductive healthcare that should be accessible to all people who can get pregnant.
As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg said in her 1993 Senate confirmation hearing, “The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, to her well-being and dignity. …When government controls that decision for her, she is being treated as less than a fully adult human responsible for her own choices.”
Roe v. Wade (1973), which made abortion legal in all 50 states, is one of the most influential decisions of the 20th century. A person’s right to choose if, when, and how to parent is a fundamental human right. Sadly, we have seen the whittling away of abortion access over the last 49 years – most notably in Texas by the passage of SB 8 which functionally bans abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy.
Even with the most affordable, unbiased, person-centered access to contraception, the need for abortion care will never go away. Reflecting this reality, we have updated our definition of sexual and reproductive healthcare to explicitly include abortion care.
We remain committed to a vision of a future where all people can access the safe, high-quality, unbiased sexual and reproductive healthcare they want and need.
