88th Texas Legislature
88th Legislative Session Report
On May 29, the Texas Legislature adjourned sine die marking the end of the 88th Regular Legislative Session. This session we saw the Legislature take steps to support the preventive healthcare safety net. Every Body Texas is proud to share our full legislative report presenting an overview of the 88th Session and how we achieved progress on our 2023 Policy Priorities.
Expanding access to care means advocating for investment in our communities
All people deserve access to safe, unbiased, high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services. Unfortunately in a state like Texas, access to care is a constant challenge—especially for people who are low-income, uninsured, immigrants, or minors. That is why Every Body Texas is present on the state and national level advocating for the policies and investments in our communities that increase access to care for all people.
Every Body Texas speaks to the fact that all people—regardless of gender, age, income, or life circumstances—need to be able to access safe, unbiased, high-quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services. That is not yet a reality in Texas and we still have a lot of work to do.
Uncertain funding at the federal and state levels remains the greatest challenge to sexual and reproductive healthcare providers and clients. Nearly 2 million women in Texas are estimated to be in need of publicly subsidized family planning services and the demand for high-quality, accessible healthcare has never been greater. Texas remains the uninsured capital of the United States, with an estimated 18.4% (5.2 million) uninsured residents.
We are fighting for a future where all people have the care they want and need, when they need it. We want lawmakers who are more vocal advocates for the importance of unbiased, affordable sexual and reproductive healthcare and who increase funding for relevant programs and services.
